GOOD TO KNOW

A few details that prevent missed meetings.

Should I choose EST or New York local time?

If a meeting is tied to a local New York clock, choose New York. It switches between EST and EDT by date. Choose fixed EST only when the organizer means UTC−05:00 throughout the year. If the invitation only says “EST” in summer, ask the organizer which rule they mean.

Can I convert IST back to Eastern time?

Yes. Select “IST (India) → EST / EDT” and enter the date and time in India. The Eastern rule still matters: fixed EST always uses UTC−05:00; New York follows daylight saving.

What happens when the clocks change?

New York skips 02:00–02:59 on March 8, 2026; these times do not exist. On November 1, 2026, 01:00–01:59 occurs twice. The converter asks you to select the first (EDT) or second (EST) occurrence.
